I’m Melodye
Everyone needs more color in their lives as color evokes emotion, memory, and connection. I strive to stimulate a sense of happiness and joy through bright color choices and my subject matter.
As a child, I was always creating. I was most inspired by my high school art teacher where I learned many techniques and styles of drawing and painting. He encouraged me to explore and combine art with my love of Biology and Nature.
My art business has been designated as a “Trusted Art Seller” with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
Samples of my art and techniques are below.
Experience
My love of color and texture has developed into many styles and themes over the years.
My husband Thom is from Laguna Beach, California – a small coastal town considered by many to be the art capital of the US. We lived in nearby San Clemente for many years and enjoyed frequenting the galleries and festivals held in Laguna throughout the year. We have had the good fortune to travel extensively, acquiring fine art at auctions and regional pieces from individual artists we meet in our global travels. I also take inspiration from many famous artists we have met during our journeys, including Peter Max, Chris DeRubeis, Simon Bull, Michael Goddard, Daniel Wall, Allison Lefcort, Slava Ilyayev and many others.
TECHNIQUES
I constantly research new methods to incorporate into my art. My focus shifts from time to time, as I meander between watercolor, pastels, oils, pallet work and even some pen & ink. Since 2020 most of my work has been in fluid art- fluid impressionism – pouring acrylic paints with intention, then embellishing with a variety of tools (often my fingers) and materials such as gold and silver leaf. I often incorporate elements of the natural world into my art, including leaf prints, sea fans, shells and coquina. I often use metallic paints in my work and frequently coat my pieces with resin to highlight the overall color richness and shimmer.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
I was a clinical research professional who ran global trials from my St Augustine home office, an office that doubled as my art studio! What better way to escape the stress of corporate responsibilities than to spin my chair around and unwind with a brush or pallet knife, or experiment with a new expressive technique recently acquired?
In November 2024, during the 5th Annual Beach Artwalk along A1A in St Augustine Beach, we opened our new gallery featuring our fine art collection, alongside my own work. I also show my art at the St Augustine Beach Art Studio & Gallery, the Village Square in our Palencia neighborhood, and was recently a guest artist at Lilu’s Art and Antiques.
